As an Agent of death Madeline Black escorts souls of
the dead to the afterlife but that isn’t all that’s going on in Maddy’s life
anymore. Things got so much harder when she found out her father was Azazel,
bad guys were coming out of the deep end trying to kill her. But that was
nothing compared to enemies heading her way now that everyone knows she’s
Lucifer’s granddaughter. Maddy has to defend herself from foes coming at her
from every angle, people who have scores with settle with both her father and
grandfather, family members who want her out of the way. Now on top of that her
bodyguard Gabriel, whom she loves and her gargoyle, Beezle who is more like
family have both disappeared. If that wasn’t bad enough Maddy is going to other
realms for delicate diplomatic missions on behalf of her grandfather, ones that
may cost Maddy her life. . .
I loved this book maybe a little more than I loved the
first one. Could Maddy’s life get any worse than it was before? Of course it
could and it does.
Black Night starts off strong and stayed that way
throughout the whole book. On the way home from helping a soul Maddy is
attacked by something unknown, and she’s put on alert. Then while she’s with
Gabriel and J.B. they come across a dead werewolf. So many things go wrong for
Maddy in such a short amount of time that I have no idea how she deals with
everything and keeps from falling apart. She’s attacked by some unknown magic,
she finds the body of werewolf and she thinks she has a clue who doing it. Her
half-brother Antares is trying to kill her at every turn because he hates the
fact that she’s been named Azazel’s heir. Not only is Maddy facing werewolves
who think she might be the one killing them, nephilim, fallen, and family but
now she has to head to the Fae kingdom to handle some negotiations with their
ruler Amarantha. But things never seem to go easy for Maddy. So many
things go down in this that I haven’t even covered it all.
I love when I read a book and it keeps me guessing the
whole time that makes it so much better for me. And that’s just what Black
Night did. I also loved all of the romantic tension in this book, there are
three guys in Maddy’s life and I love it. There wasn’t much of Gabriel in this
book and while I like him as a person I don’t think it would work between him
and Maddy. I mean come on if a man can’t fight for what he wants its time to
move on from him. Then there’s Nathaniel who I found myself liking him a lot in
more this but he wouldn’t work with Maddy either. And finally there is J.B. who
was a jerk but he grew on me and personally I think he would be great for
Maddy.
This book was great everything about this book was
great, the drama, the good guys, the bad guys, the plot, writing style.
Everything. Honestly I loved all the characters, they each bought something
unique and special to the storyline. The characters developed really well in
this one, you see more of a lot of the characters. You get to see Maddy really
grow and become her own woman, she matures and learns her powers and how to use
them. No matter what was thrown at her she used her head and came out stronger
than before. If I was picking a group of book heroines to become friends with
you better believe Maddy would make the cut.
Ms. Henry is definitely one to watch out for and you
can bet your ass I’ll be watching, and buying anything she comes out with. I
most definitely can’t wait for book three, ii wish I had it in my hands right
now.
