Seventeen-year-old Bee is forced to live in the “Curse House” with the “Beast” all because her father tried to
steal a magic curse for his sick wife, leaving his daughter to take his
punishment instead. Growing up Bee has heard many things about mysterious
house, and she’s scared out of her mind to be going there. Entering the house
nothing is what she thought it would be, Will is not the “beast” everyone
thought. At least he doesn’t look like one, his attitude is another matter all
together. All Bee wants to do is leave but too bad the house is sealed by magic and
the only way to leave is by breaking the curse. The witch who cursed Will left
the answers for him, but its in the form of one big riddle. Helping that stuck up jerk is the
last thing Bee wants to do but if she ever wants to leave, she and Will, will have to work together
but they must hurry because time is something they don’t have a lot of.
Can
I just say how much I loved this book?
While
the book might be based off Beauty and the Beast Ms. Ellison really made the
tale its own. I really enjoyed this story it was sweet, intriguing, dark,
funny, sad, fast paced, witty, and everything else you want in a good story.
Will and Bee both had their own stories that only added to the main story keeping
things fresh and interesting without have too much information and not enough
of anything else. What I loved most was the mystery, there were things that were unknown adding to the mystery of the curse. I really liked the different between Bee’s world and Will's world. Bee's outside world was normal and average then you had Will's world where behind the walls of the “curse house” nothing was as it seemed. The
secondary characters also brought life to the world making Bee realize that
while she is a victim of lies and trickery, these other people are victims of
the curse and they need her help. The tension between Will and Bee was thick
and at times really funny. Another thing I loved is how the story flowed
together and not in way that seemed forced. It was well written and so good.
With
witches, faeries, shapeshifters, evil curse, magic houses, and origami come to
life, this story is one you won’t want to put down. This isn’t your mother’s Beauty
and the Beast.
