The Bo0ki3

A blog about books. I'll be posting reviews, weekly features, giveaways, author interviews, and other things.

TGIF is a fun little feature hosted at Ginger @ GReads! Every week we re-cap what has happened on the blog plus Ginger asks a question for us to answer. This week’s question is: Banned Book:
How do you feel about the censorship of freedom to read? Do you think the education system needs to be more strict on what books children are exposed to in book?

I love this question. As a person whose only been out of school for four years I totally relate to this question. The education system should only be strict on books when it comes to school required reading.

I am definitely pro reading and I believe people should be able to read whatever they want without anyone telling them otherwise, I don't care who they are. Be it teachers, friends, family, parents, or the mailman. The education system should only be able to hand you a list and say "these are the only books your allowed to read as far as school goes." Outside of the classroom that's a whole other ball game one where they have no say. Book are informative and entertaining, they offer some a kind of escape and no one should be denied that. Now I will say this I think people have to be mature enough to read certain books, and they doesn't mean you have to an adult. You only have to be wise enough understand that what you read doesn't change who you are. Reading certain kinds of books won't make you gay, a slut, pregnant, a criminal, or make you use drugs. That's just the way I see it.

Up A Dry Creek
Avery Flynn
Dry Creek Book 1
Romantic Suspense
Publisher Evernight Publishing
ISBN: 9-781-92695-051-8
Release Date: June 15, 2011
Overall Rating: 4.5/5

Claire Layton owner the Harvest Bistro and loves what she does, what she doesn’t love is finding a dead body in her dumpster. And what she really doesn’t love is the killer calling her on the phone demanded that she finds the dead girls cell phone and flash driver or Claire will be the next one to turn up dead.

Jake Warrick a cocky, really good looking, hot-shot private investigator from the city rolls into town, hired by the victim’s father to make sure the small town sheriff, who just so happens to be Claire’s brother finds the killer.

All Jake wants to do is solve the case and get the hell out of that hick town as soon as possible but the equally sassy, and attractive Claire turns his plans upside down and inside out. Together the two of them realize there is more to this murder than meets the eye. Hopefully they can find the killer before its lights out for Claire.

What a great way to start off a new series. This one had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I loved was how realistic it was, I mean if it isn’t sci-fi make it real. And that is exactly what Ms. Flynn did. I could actually see things happening the way it was described. I enjoyed reading about Claire, she was sassy, spunky, tough, independent, yet at the same time she was still a girl and also vulnerable. The thing I really loved was the family element through it all. Coming from a really close family, it’s important to me, so I loved the way Claire and her three brothers were around each other. The banter between them was funny and cute.

The intense chemistry between Claire and Jake was pure fire; it was hot and had a lot of steam. What I really appreciated was the fact that Claire and Jake weren’t one of those couple who stress the whole book about how independent they are and how they can’t give up a little independence to be with the other person.  Up A Dry Creek was a good read and it just flowed really well, there was never a dull moment. The plot was jam packed with twists and turns, the sexual tension was hot enough to burn through the pages. The ending was good and I look forward to reading the next books.

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

THE SON OF NEPTUNE BY RICK RIORDAN

Hardcover, 384 pages

The Hero of Olympus Book 2
Young Adult (Fantasy/ Mythology)
Publisher: Hyperion Books CH
October 4th 2011

From Rick’s Site:

In The Lost Hero, three demigods named Jason, Piper, and Leo made their first visit to Camp Half-Blood, where they inherited a blood-chilling quest:

Seven half-bloods shall answer the call,
To storm or fire the world must fall.
An oath to keep with a final breath,
And foes bear arms to the Doors of Death.

Who are the other four mentioned in the prophesy? The answer may lie in another camp miles away, where a new camper has shown up and appears to be the son of Neptune, god of the sea. . .

With an ever-expanding cast of brave-hearted heroes and formidable foes, this second book in The Heroes of Olympus series offers all of the action, pathos, and humor that Rick Riordan fans crave.

“We will abide by the agreement of peaceful assembly” Curran said. “You’re free to leave. Go home, kiss your wives, hug your children, and put your affairs in order, because tomorrow I will burn your neighborhood to the ground. We will kill you, your families, your pets, and anyone who stands in our path. An attack on my family will not go unpunished.”

In My Mailbox is something was that started over at The Story Siren and I think it’s pretty awesome. It’s a way to showcase the books that you gotten through different places. Books you gotten in the mail, brought from a store, borrowed from the library, received to write a review, or they can be in eBook form. Here's a link to see how it all started.

Brought:

The Hidden (The Hollow #3) by Jessica Verday

Abbey knows that Caspian is her destiny. Theirs is a bond that transcends even death. But as Abbey finally learns the full truth about the dark fate that links her to Caspian and ties them both to the town of Sleepy Hollow, she suddenly has some very hard choices to make. Caspian may be the love of her life, but is that love worth dying for?

Supernatural by Larissa Ione, Alexandra Ivy, Jacquelyn Frank, and G.A. Aiken

In this tantalizing collection, four New York Times bestselling authors invite you into the alluring worlds they've created in the Demonica, Guardians of Eternity, Nightwalkers, and Dragon Kin series. Each mesmerizing page will leave you craving more. . .

"Vampire Fight Club” by Larissa Ione
When a wave of violence forces shapeshifter Vladlena to go undercover, her first stop is a haven of vice—with a dangerously sexy vamp in charge. Both Vladlena and Nathan are hiding something, but they can't conceal the lust that simmers between them . . .

"Darkness Eternal” by Alexandra Ivy

"Kane” by Jacquelyn Frank

"Dragon on Top” by G.A. Aiken
Escorting the highborn Bram through deadly Sand Dragon territory will try Ghleanna's patience. . . and her resolve. For Bram is determined to enhance the journey with a seduction no female could resist. . .

Campus Foursome (Four Erotic College Stories) by Delilah Fawkes (kindle)

Campus Foursome is an erotic short story collection from bestselling author Delilah Fawkes, containing four steamy tales of sexual exploration in college.

TIT FOR TAT
Sara has always been a good girl, up until the two most notorious guys on campus ask her and her friend "Will you kiss for us?" The guys want to go tit for tat. If the girls perform for them, they'll give them the show of a lifetime. Can Sara muster the courage to play their seductive game?

HIT THE SHOWERS
Kelly is having one of the worst days ever when the swim coach asks her to lock up the office in the guys' locker room after practice. Even though all she wants is to take a nose dive into a pint of rocky road after her breakup-by-text-message, she agrees.
Instead of finding an empty locker room, she walks in on swim team hotties Ben and Max, and what they're doing to one another makes her forget all about her ex. When she's caught spying on these two doing the locker room nasty, they ask her to join the fun.
Maybe a shower room three-way is just the thing to make her forget all about her troubles as well as her inhibitions...

YES, PROFESSOR
When Professor Blackwell catches another of his TA, Emily's mistakes, she's worried the sexy, dominant man has finally had enough of her. However, instead of letting her go, he decides a punishment is in order. Maybe a little discipline is all Emily's needed all along...

CRAM SESSION
When geeky Brian is cramming with the girl of his dreams for tomorrow's test, she admits that she longs for a man to dominate her in the bedroom. Her jock boyfriend isn't cutting it--Lexi wants a man who takes what he wants.
Brian can't believe what he's hearing. They're alone in the library, and his crush is describing his deepest fantasy. He'd love nothing more than to spank her firm ass and make her his.
Now's his chance. Is he man enough to be the dom she needs?

Bunny and the Bear by Eve Langlais (pdf)

What’s a poor bear to do when all he wants is some sweet, bunny pie?

Bears and bunnies aren’t supposed to mix, or that’s what Chase keeps telling himself when his bouncy new neighbor won’t stay out of his business—and his mind. However, the more he gets to know his overly perky neighbor, the more he craves her—naked in his grasp—a desire worse than his addiction to honey and pie.

Miranda’s on a mission for the Furry United Coalition, and it involves secretly guarding one grumpy ol’ bear. Staying focused on the job isn’t easy when all she can think about is turning his frown upside down, a task made harder when she gets a glimpse of his passion. When she hears about his theory on woodland creatures and predators not mixing, she thinks all is lost, but she didn’t count on a bear’s curious nature—and possessive need.

When an evil force abducts Chase, Miranda unleashes her bunny in order to save him, but the revelation of her shifter side puts her in danger. Is one ornery bear enough to save her from a mad scientist? And if he does, can a bear forget her woodland creature status long enough to love her and make her his mate?

Dating Cupid by Eve Langlais (pdf)

Roxanne knows where she’d like to shove Cupid’s arrow.

Tired of cheating men and false promises of love, Roxanne launches a campaign against Cupid’s Dating Service. But it’s hard to smear a company when you’ve got the hots for the owner.

Maverick Eros is more than the CEO of CDS, he’s Cupid himself. However, forget the media images of a chubby diapered cherub because the god of love is actually six feet plus of yummy, muscled male.

When they meet, sparks fly--the lusty kind--but they both know from experience, love hurts. In the end though, they’ll learn that love will have its way with them with or without the aid of Cupid’s arrow.

Red Moon Rising by Peter Moore (pdf)

Being only half-vamp in a high school like Carpathia Night makes you a whole loser. But Danny Gray manages to escape the worst of the specists at his school. Thanks to genetic treatments he had as an infant, most people assume Danny's other half is human. Which is a good thing.
Ever since the development of synthetic blood – SynHeme – vamps have become society’s elite, while wulves like his father work menial jobs and live in bad neighborhoods. Wulves are less than second class citizens; once a month they become inmates, forced to undergo their Change in dangerous government compounds.
For Danny, living with his vamp mother and going to a school with a nearly all-vamp student body, it’s best to pretend his wulf half doesn’t even exist. But lately Danny's been having some weird symptoms — fantastic night vision; a keener-than-usual sense of smell; and headaches, right around the full moon.
Even though it's easy to be in denial, it's hard to ignore evidence. There's only a month until the next few moon, and Danny's time is running out.

By Midnight (Ravenwood #1) by Mia James (pdf)

April Dunne is not impressed. She's had to move from Edinburgh to Highgate, London, with her parents. She's left her friends - and her entire life - behind. She has to start at a new school and, worst of all, now she's stuck in a creepy old dump of a house which doesn't even have proper mobile phone reception. Ravenwood, her new school, is a prestigious academy for gifted (financially or academically) students - and the only place her parents could find her a place, in the middle of term, in the middle of London, on incredibly short notice. So she's stuck with the super-rich, and the super-smart . . . and trying to fit in is when the rest of the students seem to be more glamorous, smarter, or more talented than she is, is more than tough.

It's intimidating and isolating, even when she finds a friend in the conspiracy-theorist Caro Jackson - and perhaps finds something more than friendship in the gorgeous, mysterious Gabriel Swift. But there's more going on at Ravenwood than meets the eye. Practical jokes on new students are normal, but when Gabriel saves her from . . . something . . . . in the Highgate Cemetery, and then she discovers that a murder took place, just yards away from where she had been standing, April has to wonder if something more sinister is going on. . . . and whether or not she's going to live through it.

Mona Lisa Eclipsing (Monère: Children of the Moon #7) by Sunny

From the time she was an orphan, Mona Lisa knew she was different. As a Mixed-Blood daughter of the Monère, she rules her domain in the Louisiana Bayou. But she’s about to become the hunted as her mind begins playing tricks, and no one is who they seem.

Roberto Carderas, a dangerous drug lord of mixed Monère heritage, arrives in Cozumel to eliminate a rival. But the jaguar-shifter has encountered a much more valuable prize on the island: Mona Lisa, the first female Monère he’s ever met—and one especially vulnerable in that she has lost her memory. Now, with all knowledge of her real life as stripped away as her defenses, Mona Lisa can be manipulated into believing…anything.

Convinced that Roberto is her kind and sensual protector, Mona Lisa thwarts all attempts at her rescue—including those made by her desperate lover Dante. As Roberto’s devious scheme gets underway, Dante can only hope that the touch of his warm flesh will reignite total recall in the body and mind of the woman he loves. But escape for both of them could be as forever elusive as Mona Lisa’s past.
