Claire Layton owner the Harvest Bistro and loves what she does, what she doesn’t love is finding a dead body in her dumpster. And what she really doesn’t love is the killer calling her on the phone demanded that she finds the dead girls cell phone and flash driver or Claire will be the next one to turn up dead.

Jake Warrick a cocky, really good looking, hot-shot private investigator from the city rolls into town, hired by the victim’s father to make sure the small town sheriff, who just so happens to be Claire’s brother finds the killer.

All Jake wants to do is solve the case and get the hell out of that hick town as soon as possible but the equally sassy, and attractive Claire turns his plans upside down and inside out. Together the two of them realize there is more to this murder than meets the eye. Hopefully they can find the killer before its lights out for Claire.

What a great way to start off a new series. This one had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I loved was how realistic it was, I mean if it isn’t sci-fi make it real. And that is exactly what Ms. Flynn did. I could actually see things happening the way it was described. I enjoyed reading about Claire, she was sassy, spunky, tough, independent, yet at the same time she was still a girl and also vulnerable. The thing I really loved was the family element through it all. Coming from a really close family, it’s important to me, so I loved the way Claire and her three brothers were around each other. The banter between them was funny and cute.

The intense chemistry between Claire and Jake was pure fire; it was hot and had a lot of steam. What I really appreciated was the fact that Claire and Jake weren’t one of those couple who stress the whole book about how independent they are and how they can’t give up a little independence to be with the other person.  Up A Dry Creek was a good read and it just flowed really well, there was never a dull moment. The plot was jam packed with twists and turns, the sexual tension was hot enough to burn through the pages. The ending was good and I look forward to reading the next books.

  1. So glad you liked Up a Dry Creek! And you're right it wouldn't have been the same without Claire's entire family putting in their two cents worth - constantly. :)

  2. I love a good mystery thriller and romance and from the review I am going to love this book.
I also like when there is a family element that recurs through the book to get a lot of background to characters.
