Romantic Suspense: One Cop’s Perspective
By Kathy Bennett

Tearing down the street at 80 miles per hour. Running through the dark after armed robbery suspects. Seeing a man get shot dead in front of my eyes.  These are all things I experienced during my twenty-one year career as an LAPD officer.  Not everyone is cut out to be a police officer, but many people want that sense of excitement, that shot of adrenaline, the heart-pounding danger.

That’s why I write romantic suspense and suspense stories.  My characters bring authentic crime and arresting stories to life.  Readers not only experience what it’s like to wear a badge, but also feel the emotional toll police work takes on a cop’s soul while laughing along with the gallows humor some officers possess.

While readers want all the excitement of police work, they want to know about the personal side of cops as well.  When it comes to romance and sex, many cops are experts – of course, they’ve paid for their education through their many divorces! Can you imagine strangers throwing themselves at you because of the uniform you wear?  How do you spend more time with your police partner than you do your spouse and not have a special bond?  How often does that danger-initiated adrenaline rush turn to heart-pounding romance? A lot - I’m married to a cop.

I love to write romantic suspense because I get to weave thrilling stories that put readers in the center of the action and the romance – all from the safety of their recliner.

Kathy is one of the many talented authors who belong to the Romance Writers of America’s Kiss of Death chapter. At Kiss of Death we believe that every great romance should include suspense. Whether a spy thriller in Regency times, a paranormal romance with a revenge-seeking zombie, or a traditional serial killer after the heroine, romance relies on suspense, leading the reader through the trials of the heroine and hero to see if they will get their happily ever after ending. If you can call your writing suspenseful, then the Kiss of Death has something for you! Find out more and join at http://www.rwamysterysuspense.org and follow us on Twitter at @RWAKissofDeath.

A Dozen Deadly Roses blurb
By Kathy Bennett

Los Angeles Police Officer Jade Donovan is being hunted. There’s the lieutenant who’s out to get her, the psycho who’s stalking her and leaving dead roses at her door, but most frightening of all, she’s been assigned to partner with her son’s father, Mac Stryker. Mac doesn’t know he’s Donnie’s dad, and Jade will stop at nothing to prevent him from finding out and possibly taking away her son. She will protect and defend him at all costs.

Mac Stryker is a cop with something to prove. Five years ago, he’d been forced to resign the police department in disgrace when he was too drunk to take action during a shooting. Now, Mac is sober, back on the force and back working with Jade Donovan, the rookie who’d saved his life. Worse, he finds himself attracted to Jade and her precocious son, Donnie. But Mac is through with love. The violent death of his wife and daughter turned him into an alcoholic, and he won’t put his job or his heart at risk again. He will protect and defend them both at all costs.

But when the deadline looms on Jade’s dozen deadly roses stalker, will the two partners manage to put aside their differences in order to save their son?

  1. I already have Kathy Bennett's book so I won't enter the contest. I would like to say, however, I've heard many of her stories from her years on the force. She does a great job pulling inspiration from those stories and adding twists of her own to create some high-wire tension suspense. I'm looking forward to her next book!

  2. Hi Aganezer!

Yeah, I've never met a cop yet who doesn't like to share their war stories. I appreciate the fact you are able to see the authentic crime in my books.
