TGIF is a fun little feature hosted by Ginger @ GReads! Every week we re-cap what has happened on the blog plus Ginger asks a question for us to answer. This week’ question is: Bookish Trends: What are some bookish trends you are noticing in the literature world today? Is there a particular trend you'd like to see more of?

As always Ginger asked a very good question.

Yes, there are some trends that have a started a for some reason.

There is always the new girl who gets the attention of the most popular guy in school who already has a mean girlfriend who is a total witch with a capital B. Or the old girl who meets the hot new boy. But in either of those scenarios the girl founds out that she is part of the supernatural world.

Boo! Been there done that.

Oh. Oh. This trend honestly pisses me off. Love Triangles. I’m seriously sick of them. I get it they make the story good but really does every 4.5/5 books need one. Give me a book about a girl who’s heart doesn’t stop at the thought of some guy leaving her and I’ll be happy.

Other than that as long as the book is good I’m happy to read it.

  1. Agreed! I haven't really thought of love triangles as a trend, but I suppose they are--and they tend to be annoying. There are some legitimate cases where the protagonist is genuinely confused over what guy she belongs with, but most love triangles seem to exist mainly for "suspense"--even though it's perfectly obviously which guy is going to get the girl. They exist more for readers than for the characters, and I think that's a problem. It's also a little weird to me that people would actually sit back and weigh the benefits of different guys.

  2. Haha, yeah, Love triangles... I glad I don't have enough of them just yet. coz then I could probably have to leave all those books on my shelf unread...
As a side note recommendation: Joshua Plamatier's series about the Throne of Amenkor. Fantasy, but no guy for the lead role girl involved - at least not in that manner. Maybe you wanna check that out. ;)

  3. Hah, yes! About the first thing:

I have big issues with that particular trope, because often enough authors make real life, real friends, real parents, humans in general, look unworthy of the heroine's affection and attention. They create a vampire boyfriend or a bad-boy-angel or whatever you want to call it, who love her unconditionally, something that is simply impossible. Or they say that she is a loner because of her superpowers, which is just as bad, in my opinion. Can't she be an outsider because she is just.. awkward around people? And no, Sookie, people don't dislike you cause you read their minds, they dislike you, cause you're annoying! >_<

As for the love triangles. I can't even! God, they annoy me so much! Why would anyone WANT to have.. I .. ARGH!

    In short: Agreed!

    Already a follower. :)

  4. That is so true. Love triangles really!!?? Where do these girls find not one but two guys? And why do they not understand commitment in one (monogamous) relationship is important? I don't understand that issue of a female character needing and losing her life for a boy. Really??!! Great Post! :)
