In My Mailbox (51)

by - April 01, 2012

In My Mailbox is something was that started over at The Story Siren and I think it’s pretty awesome. It’s a way to showcase the books that you gotten through different places. Books you gotten in the mail, brought from a store, borrowed from the library, received to write a review, or they can be in eBook form. Here's a link to see how it all started.

Brought:

Bear Meets Girl  (Pride #7) by Shelly Laurenston

He's big, burly, and way smarter than your average shapeshifting bear. He's also about to get trapped by own his game. . .

Lou Crushek is a reasonable, mellow, easygoing kind of guy. But once someone starts killing the scumbags he works so hard to bust, that really gets under his fur. Especially when that someone is a curvy she-tiger with a skill set that's turning Crush's lone-bear world upside down--and bringing his passion out of hibernation. . .
As a member of an elite feline protection unit, Marcella Malone has no problem body-dropping anyone who hunts her kind. But Crush is proving one major pain in her gorgeous tail. The only reason she's joined forces with him is to track down the wealthy human who's got her entire species in his ruthless sights. It sure isn't because Crush's stubborn and contrary attitude is rubbing Cella in all the right ways. . .

Or at least that’s what Sophie thinks, until she makes a surprising discovery. The Brannicks know an epic war is coming, and they believe Sophie is the only one powerful enough to stop the world from ending. But without her magic, Sophie isn’t as confident.
Sophie’s bound for one hell of a ride—can she get her powers back before it’s too late?

A Season of Eden  by Jennifer Laurens

He’s my teacher. I shouldn’t be alone with him. But I can’t help that he’s irresistible.

I let the door silently close at my back. He stared at me, and a taut quiet stretched between us.
“I like hearing you play,” I said, moving toward him.

He turned, in sync with my slow approach. He looked up at me but didn’t say anything. I rested my clammy hand on the cold, slick body of the baby grand. “May I?”
The muscles in his throat shifted, then he swallowed. “Eden.”
My knees weakened, like a soft tickling kiss had just been blown against the backs of them. “Is it okay?” I asked.
His gaze held mine like two hands joined. He understood what I was really asking.
“Let me stay,” I said. “Please.”
“You’re going to get me in trouble,” he said

Deep Waters  by Sophie Rhodes

We have walked in the furry feet of a hobbit, flown through the air on broomsticks with wizards, and fallen in love with vegetarian vampires. What series will have readers holding their breath next? Deepwaters, an underwater tale of mermaids and forbidden love set against the modern backdrop of climate change.
Deep within the waters of Earth lives a mysterious species of mermaids, the Lemoso. Recent human environmental disasters have threatened the Lemoso’s way of life and forced their prince, Raymos Seabolt, to take a stand. Boundaries are tested and rules are broken as Raymos fosters his forbidden romance with a human, Julia Cork. Can their love transcend their differences in time to save the waters that they both hold so dear—the Great Lakes?

Circles  by Ruby Standing Deer

With much of the world still undiscovered, a small band of people live a peaceful life, until the dream vision of a young boy, Feather Floating In Water, changes everything. Only nine winters old, Feather’s dreams turn his seemingly ordinary childhood into the journey of a lifetime. He must help his people face a terrifying destiny from which they cannot turn away. He must find a way to make his people listen.

Bright Sun Flower, the boy’s grandmother, guides his beginnings, teaching him about the Circle of Life, and how without it, no life can exist. But he needs a bigger push, and gets it from a grey wolf and a Great Elder. The boy’s journey leads him to discover that the Circle of Life involves all people, all living things, and not just the world he knows.

In the end, an ancient People guide the boy in his visions, toward an unexpected place hidden from outsiders.

This story is steeped in American Indian life, in their beliefs and humor, and in their love of family. It shows how we might benefit from the old ways today.
